LEVELS OF COMPETITION

A. The following breakdown of grades is used to designate categories for curricular event entries. Each level has its own unique competitive events guide.

Middle School/Junior High School--Grades 6, 7, 8, 9

High School--Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Ninth-graders must compete at the level in which the chapter affiliates. For example, if the ninth grade is housed in a high school (9-12), the student must compete in the high school events. If the ninth grade is housed at a 6-9 or 7-9 school, ninth grade students must compete in the middle school events.

B. If the school has a 1-12 or other configuration other than the examples above, call the CRC chairperson or Spring LTSA for clarification and approval on the appropriate school designation. Chapters are designated on separate registration forms. There is a unique form for each level (high school and middle school).

PARTICIPATION IN COMPETITIVE EVENTS

A. It is the intent of LTSA, Inc. to involve as many different LTSA members possible in competitive events and provide recognition in a setting of fair-practices using LTSA event guidelines.

B. Should a question or problem arise that has not been covered in the General Rules or in the individual event guidelines, the Rules Interpretation Panel (RIP) renders a decision at the conference. The decisions of the RIP at the Spring conference are final.

C. Should a conflict develop that prevents a member from participating because of an impossible scheduling difficulty the participant decides which event entry is to be eliminated.

D. It is the individual responsibility of each participant to obtain all rules and guidelines for the events. Lack of knowledge or understanding about a particular event is neither reason nor excuse for an individual to request an adjustment or change to accommodate them.

E. Concern about any event during the Spring LTSA conference should be submitted in writing to the Rules Interpretation Panel.

F. LTSA members, advisors, and chapters must be currently affiliated with LTSA in order to enter any competitive event.

G. Students must be registered and be in attendance at the Spring conference in order to enter and become a finalist in any event.

H. LTSA membership rights extend through the year of graduation. It is permissible for students who graduate mid-year to compete at the Spring conference that immediately follows graduation.

I. The recommended event limit is six (6) per conference participant, individual and team events combined.

J. Participants are entitled to have only one entry per event (e.g., only one Dragster Design car, one Manufacturing Prototype, one Promotional Communication, etc.).

K. For participants who violate the rules, the decision either to deduct twenty points (20) or disqualify the entry must be discussed and verified with the event evaluators, event coordinator, and a CRC manager.

L. Group entry into events: Concerning the events that may be entered by a chapter, the chapter designates only that it will be participating, not the names of the individual members who are participating.

AWARDS

A. Awards are presented to the winning entries in each event at the awards presentation ceremonies. First-, second-, and third-place awards are presented to either the individual or to the team, as determined by each event.

B. Ten finalists are identified in each event. Those not receiving awards receive recognition by being introduced at the awards presentation.

C. First-, second-, and third-place award recipients are randomly included in the number of finalists posted and announced at the awards presentations.
