to Competition
RESERVE – Student members of East St. John High School’s Technology Student Association Chapter presented items that they have engraved in their classroom workshop to St. John the Baptist Parish School Board members at recent meeting. They are doing the engraving to raise money to pay for traveling expenses related to TSA competitions and other promotion visits.
East St. John High TSA Chapter Advisor Beverly Britton, who is now serving her second year as the Louisiana TSA Advisor, said many of her students will be visiting schools across the state this year to encourage them to start a technology chapter. They will attend the annual state conference and they will participate in competition projects.
Last year’s local chapter won several state and national awards. Students involved in TSA can compete in a variety of technology competitions, including flight endurance, CO2 dragster racing and design, video imaging, and mouse trap race car design.
“I had the privilege of attending two conference last year, Leadership and State Competition, and I can say, seeing a different environment separate from our classrooms is a treat,” Desmond Noah, East St. John High’s TSA chapter president.
“I believe that the classroom is further enhanced when total application of skills learned are involved,” he said. “Many ideas about project building is share and most of all, we can see another part of Louisiana to network with.”
Devron Davis, East St. John High’s TSA chapter treasurer, passed around items that the chapter students are engraving as a fundraising effort. He showcased dog tags, pens, wine bottles, champagne glasses and plaques.
“We will be developing a brochure to email you with further details about ordering, costs, even display of items,” Davis said. “Before you look anywhere else, check us out.”
Mark Crocklen, a new member of the high school’s TSA Chapter, also attended the board meeting.
